She's a 4.0 and I do love the motor, for everything it is, but I plan on camming it and dropping it into an AMC Rambler/Gremlin/Hornet or something later on.
The ZJ's and I believe the newer models need more lift to gain enough clearnce to run the bigger that other jeeps run without doing a lot of chopping. Basically in a ZJ, you would need 4.5 inch lift to run the same tires that a cherokee with a 3 inch lift has.
The result was the 3.0L 'EcoDiesel,' a motor that could be had with the Grand Cherokee (and much later the Wrangler and the Gladiator). That was when I purchased a completely stock 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee off Craigslist. I figured this would be both a fun and challenging way to enter the world of "Jeeping". Modifying a "ZJ" is much less popular than a Cherokee or Wrangler. Below are some of the stats of the Jeep when it was stock and where it sits today.

Shifts fine, drives fine, just high mileage. I think I will sell the 5.2 and get a 5.9, redo the gaskets and shove it in with the trans out of the 5.2
